Nicola D'Ascenzo Arched Stained Glass Window
Noted Philadelphia artisan Nicola D’Ascenzo created stained glass arched windows for Our Lady of the Rosary Church built in 1890 in Philadelphia (63rd and Callowhill streets). He was an Italian-born American stained glass designer affiliated with the University of Pennsylvania and also associated with Maxfield Parrish, a painter. Recently, the Horn & Hardart Automat windows have been restored from their headquarters at 16th and Chestnut in Center City, which Nicola D’Ascenzo had created. Bernard Goldberg Fine Arts in New York City has been quoted in the Philadelphia Inquirer (Dec. 31, 2022); “categorized some of D’Ascenzo’s work on par with Tiffany.” The three arch stain glass windows are circa 1887, enclosed in an oak frame, bright red circles of stained glass surrounded by sea blue. The rough dimension size; 4 feet with x 3 feet height.
