Our Lady of the Rosary

Designed in the Romanesque Revival style by Architect Frank Rushmore Watson. The church was constructed of locally quarried Haddington stone with granite. There were 15 stained glass windows in which the 3 arched ones were created by Nicola D’Ascenzo.

A couple breathes new life into the former St. Francis Xavier Church, a Landenburg, Pennsylvania icon since the 1890’s.

Nicola D’Ascenzo Arched Stained Glass

Noted Philadelphia artisan Nicola D’Ascenzo created stained glass arched windows for Our Lady of the Rosary Church built in 1890 in Philadelphia (63rd and Callowhill streets). He was an Italian-born American stained glass designer affiliated with the University of Pennsylvania, and also associated wih Maxfield Parrish, a well known American painter from Philadelphia. Maxfield Parrish took over D’Ascenzo’s position of Mural Decoration at the school when D’Ascenzo went abroad in 1894. Parrish collaborated with Louis Tiffany for the Secret Garden mosaic, which is in the Curtis Building in Philadelphia.
