The Academy of Music in Philadelphia, where so many great performances brightened people’s lives, had its roof over the stage replaced in 2002. The white oak and white pine roof trusses were constructed in 1857 and the white pine diagonal trusses were over 60 feet long. The white oak queen and king posts were over 12 feet long and 12” x 12” thick. The trees that these beams came from were virgin Pennsylvania wood, predating the 1700s. The corner pieces are from the ends of the original trusses. The middle squares are cross cuts from those same beams, polished to show their beautiful rings. All white pine.

Furniture maker Kalle Fauset has since been turning those beams into all sorts of custom furniture. He turned those roof beams into this table. He was featured for some of his other work in the October 2021 issue of Architectural Digest.
